Learning Without Walls, An Experience Without Limits

The Global Classroom is an immersive, holistic, and family-supported learning journey designed for globally minded homeschoolers and worldschoolers seeking more than conventional education. Grounded in the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB), the program provides an inquiry-led, transdisciplinary curriculum framework tailored for students aged 10+.

Each 10-week term, families travel together to a new location—such as Thailand, Indonesia, or Vietnam—where learners engage with real-world themes, community experiences, and ecological systems through a thoughtfully curated learning plan. Educational facilitation is guided by an experienced mentor with a BA, PGCE, and MAEd, as well as a background in leading international and alternative schools.

This is not a school, not a drop-in service, and not a boarding program. Learners remain under the care and educational responsibility of their families at all times. Harmony’s Global Classroom serves as a learning enrichment experience—supporting self-directed, portfolio-based progression that can align with future pathways, including IB Diploma entry or alternative university admissions.

For families traveling with younger children, an optional worldschooling community hub offers informal enrichment, peer play, and homeschooling support. While not a replacement for formal schooling, it provides space for creative exploration and connection within a like-minded global learning community.

A World-Class Learning Experience in Inspiring Locations

We don’t just learn about the world—we experience it firsthand. The Global Classroom rotates through three carefully chosen locations per year, providing an immersive, learner-driven project that connects learning to real-world challenges and cultural contexts.

Global Classroom Summer Project

This summer, Harmony Alternative will invite learners aged 9–14 to join us for a month of meaningful learning with the Global Classroom Project's Summer Programmes as an introduction to our year project.

Two interconnected experiential learning programmes for families

This summer we are offering two complementary Global Classroom experiences, giving families the option to join one or both. Each programme stands alone, but together they form a powerful sequence of land-based, ocean-based, and culture-rich learning across two very different environments.

St Lucia: 15 June - 10 July 2026 (with 1 Remote week before and after - 08 June - 17 July 2026)

Our St Lucia programme takes place at the historic Balenbouche Estate in the south of the island. This is a smaller-scale version of our longer Global Classroom, offering families the chance to experience our model in a four-week residency.

Learning is entirely place-based and experiential: exploring tropical ecosystems, coastal environments, heritage sites, and local food and craft traditions. Days begin with yoga or mindfulness and flow into hands-on inquiry, creative project work, community engagement, and time for reflection. One or two off-site excursions each week complement the rich learning available on the estate itself. Parents attend alongside their children.

This programme will now end one week earlier than originally planned so that learners have the opportunity to join both St Lucia and Cornwall if they wish, with a remote reflection week in between.

Cornwall, UK: 27 July – 21 August 2026 (with 1 Remote week before and after - 20 July - 28 August 2026)

Our four-week Global Classroom in the Newquay area blends exploration, creativity, and conservation along one of the most dramatic stretches of the Atlantic coast.

Learners surf and snorkel, study marine ecosystems, craft with natural materials, and spend time in nearby forests learning orienteering, foraging, hiking, archery, forest bathing, yoga, meditation, and more. Conservation and sustainability remain central as learners explore the deep interconnections between land and sea, guided by experienced Harmony facilitators, a marine biologist, local conservationists, and craftspeople.

Each week follows a different theme: living with the sea, crafting with nature, venturing into the forest, and discovering how everything connects. Days flow from outdoor exploration to creative writing, art, and mindful reflection.

Both programmes share the same Harmony principles: inquiry-driven learning, meaningful connection to place, collaboration with local communities, and time for creativity, reflection, and well-being. Together, they offer learners a unique opportunity to experience two very different environments—tropical Caribbean landscapes and the wild Atlantic coast—within the same summer.

Families can join either programme on its own, or combine both for a powerful, extended summer of learning.

If you’d like to learn more or express interest in one or both locations, feel free to contact us.

Our Curriculum

The Global Classroom is built around interdisciplinary, inquiry-driven themes, allowing learners to shape their own journeys while being guided by an experienced facilitator who ensures they remain engaged, supported, and academically on track.

Term-Based Country Rotations
with a Continuous Inquiry

Learners and their families move to a new country each term, but their learning remains aligned, connected, and learner-driven.

IB-Aligned Core Subjects

Although not following the IB, our curriculum aligns with the IB Framework, covering Global Politics, Environmental Systems, Mathematics, Language & Literature, and the Arts with a flexible, interdisciplinary approach.

Facilitator-Guided, Learner-Led

Learners take ownership of their learning, asking big questions, designing projects, and pursuing inquiries, while the facilitator guides, supports, and ensures academic alignment.

Inquiry & Project-Based Learning

Learners explore real-world challenges, collaborating on hands-on projects that connect learning to life.

Portfolio-Based Assessment
No traditional grades

Learners build personalized learning portfolios, demonstrating mastery through projects, presentations, and research.

Pathways to IB Diploma & University

Whether learners plan to take the IB Diploma, apply to university through alternative admissions, or pursue their own path, our curriculum ensures they are fully prepared.

Balance of Freedom & Structure

Learning follows a clear academic framework, but learners shape their own learning paths through research, creativity, and independent inquiry.
