Human Footprints in the Sea — Finding Our Flow

Each week here in Ko Lanta seems to find its own rhythm, and this one was no different. The group has really begun to settle, friendships are forming, morning routines feel natural, and the laughter that fills our base each day reminds us how much joy there is in shared learning.
This week we turned our focus to the ocean. With the team at Hidden Depths, learners explored the coral reefs that surround the island, learning about biodiversity, conservation, and the delicate balance of marine ecosystems. They came back buzzing with stories of clownfish, corals, and sharks, and some surprisingly strong opinions about plastic bottles and sunscreen!
But the week was full of small moments too, the ones that really make this community feel like home. Long breakfasts together at the weekend café, celebrating birthdays with a fruit "cake" and sand-covered feet, spontaneous games at low tide, and the daily yoga sessions that now feel like second nature.
Learning, as always, wove through everything: reflective writing on ocean life, maths in the form of tally charts and data sets, and visual arts inspired by what we saw beneath the surface. But what stands out most isn’t the projects themselves, it’s the way these young people are learning with one another. They are beginning to look out for each other, to collaborate naturally, and to find confidence in sharing their ideas.
You can now watch short films from our week, a glimpse of life, laughter, and learning in motion, on our new YouTube channel:
Looking Ahead
Our next stop will be Lombok in January and Hoi An in April, and both terms are already almost full. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, now’s the time to reach out.
More than an education, this is a growing community, of learners, families, and facilitators who believe that curiosity, care, and connection should guide the way we learn.
