Terms and Conditions

Harmony Alternative – Global Classroom Terms & Conditions (2026–2027 Programme)

1. Governing Agreement

These Terms & Conditions, together with the Code of Conduct, Academic Participation Policy, Environmental Participation Policy, Behaviour Policy, HACC Governance Framework, and any accompanying written policies (collectively referred to as the “Terms”), constitute a binding legal agreement between you, including your spouse, children, and any individuals registered under your enrolment (“the Client”), and Harmony Alternative’s Global Classroom (“the Program”).

These Terms:

  • Govern participation in all aspects of the Program, including educational activities, travel components, fieldwork, online sessions, community initiatives, and partner activities

  • Supersede all prior agreements, communications, or understandings, whether written or verbal

  • Apply across all programme locations and jurisdictions

By submitting registration or payment, the Client acknowledges and agrees to be bound by these Terms.

2. Nature of the Programme

The Global Classroom is an alternative, facilitator-led experiential learning programme.

It:

  • Is not a registered school

  • Does not provide statutory education certification

  • Operates internationally

  • Requires parental responsibility at all times

Parents retain full legal and educational responsibility for their children.

3. Community Contribution & Participation (HACC)

The Global Classroom operates as a community-based programme. All participating families agree to contribute constructively to the Harmony Alternative Community Circle (HACC) and broader programme delivery.

This may include:

  • Educational support

  • Event assistance

  • Logistical support

  • Wellbeing contribution

  • Specialist workshops

  • Administrative or operational assistance

Each family agrees to contribute a minimum agreed level of time or expertise per term (confirmed at enrolment).

Failure to engage constructively in agreed community contribution may trigger a participation review.

HACC operates in an advisory capacity only and does not hold authority over financial, curricular, or operational decisions.

4. Academic Participation & Engagement

Participation requires sustained academic engagement.

Core Requirements:

  • Meaningful engagement with the Companion Booklet (or approved alternative)

  • Development and ongoing weekly progression of a term-based Project

  • Participation in field reflections and portfolio documentation

  • Engagement in the end-of-term project presentation or showcase

The Companion Booklet and Project are mandatory structural components of the Program.

Parents remain responsible for:

  • Monitoring completion of required work

  • Supporting learner accountability

  • Reinforcing deadlines and follow-through

The Program provides time, structure, and guidance, but does not enforce learning in the manner of a school.

Persistent academic disengagement may result in review and possible removal without refund.

5. Remote Weeks (Consolidation Phase)

The Global Classroom operates as a full-term programme, including both in-person and remote phases.

Remote weeks are designed to:

  • Consolidate learning

  • Develop and complete project work

  • Support reflection and synthesis

Parents acknowledge that:

  • Remote weeks are an essential and required part of the programme

  • Engagement during this period is primarily parent-supported

  • Travel or personal scheduling does not exempt participation

Non-engagement during remote weeks does not constitute grounds for refund or claims of insufficient academic provision.

Tuition is not calculated on a per-week basis, and remote weeks are not financially equivalent to in-person delivery.

6. Environmental Action & Service Participation

Environmental stewardship and real-world contribution are foundational to the Program.

Activities may include:

  • Beach cleans

  • Conservation initiatives

  • Ecological surveys

  • Sustainability audits

  • Community engagement

Participation in environmental and service-based activities is a core expectation of enrolment.

The Program does not physically force participation; however, repeated refusal may be treated as misalignment with the ethos of the Program and may result in review or removal.

7. Behaviour & Community Conduct

The Program operates on restorative principles but does not function as a formal disciplinary institution.

Parents acknowledge that:

  • Behavioural accountability requires parental involvement

  • Facilitators may implement behavioural interventions

  • Persistent disruption or refusal to align with community expectations may result in removal without refund

8. Participation Review

The Program reserves the right to review participation where:

  • Behaviour does not align with community agreements

  • Community contribution commitments are not met

  • Academic participation expectations are not fulfilled

  • Environmental/service expectations are repeatedly refused

  • Parental alignment with programme ethos is not demonstrated

Participation in the Program is voluntary and conditional upon continued alignment with programme expectations.

The Program’s determination following review shall be final, subject only to the arbitration clause.

9. Supervision, Duty of Care & Communication

Scheduled supervision applies only during designated programme hours.

Responsibility transfers to parents outside official hours.

Facilitators:

  • Are engaged with learners during programme hours and may not be immediately available for communication

  • Are not expected to respond to messages outside working hours except in emergencies

  • Aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe (typically within 24 hours)

Parent-led or voluntary activities outside scheduled hours are not the responsibility of Harmony Alternative.

Facilitators retain authority to:

  • Modify activities for safety

  • Remove participants from unsafe situations

  • Enforce compliance with safety instructions

10. Technology & Personal Property

The Program does not require learners to bring or use personal technology (including phones, laptops, or tablets) unless explicitly stated.

Parents acknowledge that:

  • Responsibility for all personal devices rests entirely with the family

  • The Program is not liable for loss, damage, or misuse of devices

  • Technology use may be restricted during programme hours

11. Independent Movement & Transport (Including Motorbikes)

The Program does not authorise or supervise independent motorised transport by learners.

If a learner:

  • Drives or operates a motorbike or vehicle

  • Uses transport provided or permitted by their family

This remains entirely the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

The Program accepts no liability for any incidents arising from independent transport decisions made by families.

12. Assumption of Risk

Participation involves inherent risks including:

  • Outdoor environments

  • Marine settings

  • Travel risks

  • Heat exposure

  • Illness or injury

The Client assumes full responsibility for participation.

The Program is not liable except in cases of gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

13. Health & Climate Acknowledgement

The Program operates in tropical and international environments.

Parents are responsible for:

  • Full medical disclosure

  • Hydration and sun protection

  • Insurance coverage

The Program may restrict participation if safety concerns arise.

14. Programme Evolution & Location Changes

The Program operates in dynamic international environments.

Harmony Alternative reserves the right to modify:

  • Programme structure

  • Schedule

  • Locations

  • Partnerships

  • Academic pathways

  • Base venues within the same operational region

Venue changes within the same town or region do not constitute material change and do not entitle the Client to refund or compensation.

Accommodation and transport arrangements are made independently by families. The Program is not liable for relocation-related costs.

15. Photography & Media

Photographs and videos may be captured for promotional or archival purposes.

By participating, families consent unless written opt-out is submitted 48 hours prior.

Participants must respect the privacy of others.

Defamatory or harmful content may result in removal.

16. Insurance

Clients are solely responsible for securing travel, medical, and related insurance coverage.

The Program is not liable for travel disruptions, cancellations, or personal losses.

17. Independent Contractors

Facilitators and guest experts operate as independent contractors.

No employer-employee relationship is created.

18. Non-Solicitation & Intellectual Property

Clients may not replicate Program materials or solicit participants for competing services.

All curriculum materials remain the intellectual property of Harmony Alternative.

19. Public Communications & Complaints

Concerns must be raised directly and in writing in accordance with the formal complaints procedure.

Public defamatory or harmful communication may constitute breach of agreement.

20. Right of Removal

The Program reserves the right to withdraw a participant where:

  • Academic expectations are unmet

  • Behaviour escalates

  • Environmental/service participation is repeatedly refused

  • Community contribution commitments are not met

  • Fees remain unpaid

  • Philosophical misalignment is evident

  • Safety concerns arise
